Nothing is hidden from God. It reminds me of the story in 2 Kings 6:8-12 “Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, ‘My camp will be in such and such a place.’ And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, ‘Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.’ Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, ‘Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?’ And one of his servants said, ‘None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.’” How did the prophet Elisha know the words that the king of Syria spoke in his bedroom? There was no sophisticated electronic listening device installed in the king’s bedroom. Elisha knew what was said because God told him the words of the king. God is everywhere and He knows all that happens. Hebrews 4:13 “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
God sees everyone. Psalms 33:13-14 “The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth.” Nothing about you is hidden from your God. The psalmist wrote in Psalms 139:1-6 “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.” When Jesus met with the Samaritan woman by the well, He demonstrated that He know all about her. John 4:16-19; and 28-29 “Jesus said to her, ‘Go, call your husband, and come here.’ The woman answered and said, ‘I have no husband.’ Jesus said to her, ‘You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.’ The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.’” “The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, ‘Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?’” Just as Jesus knew everything about this woman, God knows everything about you. There is nothing about you, what you have done in the past and what you are doing now that God does not see and know.
God knows the sin that you commit. Job 34:21-22 “For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps. There is no darkness nor shadow of death where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.” Psalms 90:8 “You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.” You cannot hide your sin from God.
God also knows the good that you do. Matthew 6:3-4 “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.” Your good deeds done in secret are not hidden from God.
God knows what you are going through in your life and wants to help you. He knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:7-8 “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” The Holy Spirit helps you and knows how to intercede for you even when you don’t know what to pray for. Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
God not only knows what is happening in your life, but He also knows your heart. That implies to me that He knows your intentions and desires. King David gave this instruction to his son. 1 Chronicles 28:9 “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” 1 John 3:20-21 “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.”
There is nothing hidden from your God. He knows what is happening in your life; He knows your sins; He knows your good works; He knows what you need; He knows your heart. Since nothing is hidden from God, how should you act? There is no sense in trying to hide your sins or in pretending that you are good when your heart is filled with evil desires. I encourage you to be open with God. Confess your sin; confess your fears; confess your need for Him. I encourage you to be genuine and always seek to please Him.
