Spiritual Blessings

The letter of the apostle Paul to the Ephesians begins in a very powerful way. Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”  Do you feel blessed?  Sometimes we get burdened down by the cares of this life and the problems that we experience.  I want to encourage you to appreciate the true blessings that you have in Christ Jesus.  I will attempt to glean from the letter to the Ephesians some of the spiritual blessings that you have in Christ.

You are chosen – Ephesians 1:4 “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”

You are predestined to be adopted as God’s child – Ephesians 1:5 “Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.”

You have redemption and forgiveness of sins – Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

You have an inheritance – Ephesians 1:11 “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.”

You are sealed with the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 1:13-14 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”

The eyes of your understanding have been enlightened – Ephesians 1:18-19 “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.”

You have been made alive – Ephesians 2:1-2 “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.”

You have been raised up and made to sit in heavenly places – Ephesians 2:6-7 “And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,  that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

You have been saved by grace through faith – Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

You have been brought near by the blood of Christ – Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

You have been reconciled to God – Ephesians 2:16 “And that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.”

You have peace with God – Ephesians 2:17 “And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.”

You have access to the Father – Ephesians 2:18 “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.”

You are a member of the household of God – Ephesians 2:19 “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

It is my desire to encourage you in your Christian walk by reminding you of these spiritual blessings that you have in Christ Jesus.  Even though you have all of these spiritual blessings, you can still become discouraged by the tribulations of life. Don’t be.  The apostle Paul saw that the Ephesians might be discouraged.  So he prayed the following prayer for them.  Ephesians 3:14-21 “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height —  to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”  God loves you.  Nothing can separate you from the love of God.  He will give you the strength that you need.  Give glory to God.
