Love of God #2

Many Christians and non-Christians do not appreciate the love that God has for us.  Since we don’t hear the sound of His voice or see His face, He may seem distant and uncaring.  But John told us in 1 John 4:7-11 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.  In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”  Love is such a great part of the nature of God that this passage says that “God is love”.  All the actions of God toward us are motivated by His love for us.  This is most especially true in that he “sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins”.  In other words, there was great hostility between us and God due to our sins and He took the first step by giving His beloved Son as a substitute to take the penalty for our sins and make peace between us and Him.

Let us look at a few other ways that God demonstrates His love for us.  He freely gives us wisdom when we ask Him.  James 1:5 ”If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

He will not allow us to be tempted too greatly.  1 Cor 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

He gives us what we need.  Phil 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Heb 4:15-16 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

He has good will towards us.  Jer 29:10-14a “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.  Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, says the Lord.”  Ps 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

He will even live within us.  John 14:23 “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.’”  Eph 3:17-19 “That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height —  to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

It is my prayer that you may be able to comprehend how much God loves you!
